The cover off the tyre-shaped ‘Pit Stop’ beanbag is produced in one single process: the textile weave is created by a knitting pattern specially developed for the shape of a car tyre that allows it to be pro-duced in a single piece. Even details like the tread profile, the sidewalls and the integrated logo are knitted in one single go, producing no leftover waste material. The seams and fabric are fleece backed, producing a ‘sitting ring’ made from synthetic fibre that is delightful to the touch. The ring has a diameter of 80 cm and a height of 30 cm.
Comfortable, cool and individual: ‘Pit Stop’ offers its owners ample space and opportunities to play – and not just for kids. “I’m interested in textiles of all kinds”, says Bertjan Pot. “During my studies at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, I had great fun learning weaving and knitting, something which still strongly informs my designs even today.” And furthermore: “When I show my work to adults, they of-ten tell me that children would love them. But for Richard, I didn’t want to make anything explicitly col-ourful or playful: I wanted to do something more sober. What I like about this product is that it can sit in any living room without interfering with the overall interior design. On top of that, tyres are used the whole world over as playthings, and this one here is specially made for indoor use.”
